KTUH: The Cookbook: Recipes of Sound 7/20/10 Bobby "Blue" Bland

Bobby "Blue' Bland - Two Steps From The Blues (ABC Records) 1973

- Bobby could both comfort and chill, sometimes in the same song. He does so on this undeniably classic album's "Lead Me On," which begins with the line "You know how it feels, you understand / What it is to be a stranger in this unfriendly land" and ends softly two minutes later with the promise "I'll follow you." Such drama, coupled with a mellow soulfulness, is the norm on Two Steps. Bland has been called "the Sinatra of the blues" more than once, and this album is the best explanation ever for that appellation. - Rickey Wright - Amazon
